Image description: The women’s suffrage monument was presented to the U.S. Capitol as a gift from the women of the United States by the National Woman’s Party on February 10, 1921. The unveiling ceremony was held in the Capitol Rotunda on February 15, 1921, the 101st anniversary of the birth of Susan B. Anthony, and was attended by representatives of over 70 women’s organizations.

Suffrage did not come easy. 

The 19th Amendment was ratified on August 18, 1920.  These photos and documents within the records of the National Archives show that the right to vote was not easily won.
