Entry bubble The case of the missing mail

mail box

About two weeks ago my mail didn't show up one day. I thought it was a little odd because I usually get some kind of junk mail, circular or bill every day, but other than that I didn't think too much of it.

But then the mail didn't show up the next day, or the next or the next. It didn't show up the following Monday either.

So I called the Post Office to see what was going on. Because it was after hours, I called the 800 number and spoke with an extremely friendly guy who told me someone at my local Post Office would call me back by end of business the next day.

I wasn't totally sure if I believed that would actually happen, but to my surprise around lunch time the next day I got a call from my local Post Office wanting me to tell them what was going on. I explained that I hadn't gotten my mail in almost a week and no one had put a hold on it.

After assuring me he'd talk with my mail carrier, we hung up.

When I got home from work that day my mail was there. Not a whole bunch of it to make up for the days I missed, but something was there. And a few days later, I was surprised when I got a follow up phone call from the Post Office to check on the situation. The man on the phone told me my mail carrier said I just didn't get any mail those five days. I find that a little hard to believe, but at least my mail is coming again.

Overall I was extremely impressed with the customer service from the Post Office. They called me back promptly and fixed the situation really quickly. If you're having problems with your mail delivery, you can find more information on filing a complaint.

Feel free to share your Post Office stories in the comments.

Hey, I want to live where you live! My postal experiences are usually far from pleasant. We're at the point where when we go on vacation, we have neighbors collect our mail - because putting it on "hold" is always a nightmare (10 years of exprience with that). We also tend to get our neighbors' mail on a regular basis (maybe that's where your 5 days of mail went - to a neighbor). I have taken the mail mistakes to our local PO a number of times and am always assured that it wouldn't happen again (yeah, for about 3 days, and then it's back to square one).

I AM NOT SURPRISED AT ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS WITH THE POST OFFICE OR THE PEOPLE THAT WORK FOR THEM. I HAVE HAD MAIL OPENNED, MISSING, MY CREDIT CARD STATEMENTS HAVE GONE AWRY,PUBLIC UTILITIES, WELL THANK GOODNESS, THEY TAKE IT OUT EVERY MONTH. THE DELIVERY PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE ANY COMMON SENSE WHEN DELIVERING. THEN YOU GET THE ANSWER WELL THE REGULAR WAS ON VACATION. I HAVE HEARD EVERY STORY. I HAVE PHONED IN AND WRITTEN OUT EVERY COMPLAINT THAT THERE IS.
I HAD MY MAIL REROUTED WHILE I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL, NEVER GOT SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PAPERWORK. COME TO FIND OUT THAT THE DELIVERY PERSON HAD MY MAIL WITH THEM EVERY DAY, BROUGHT IT TO THE BOX, AND FOUND THERE OWN NOTE THERE TELLING THEM TO SEND IT ELSEWHERE.
AND THEY WANT TO RAISE RATES, I THINK SOME OF THEM SHOULD TAKE A GED COURSE ON COMMON SENSE AND ENGLISH.
BETTER YET, WHEN THEY DELIVER TO AN AREA WITH A LOT OF BOXES, THE CROWD THAT SURROUNDS THEM, EVERYONE PULLING AND LOOKING AT YOUR MAIL, BEFORE IT GETS INTO THE BOX, NOW THAT IS NOT RIGHT. THE MORE YOU COMPLAIN, THE WORSE THE SERVICE GETS, AND THEY PINPOINT YOU AND CAUSE MORE DAMAGE TO YOUR MAIL.
SEND ME A PRIVATE NOTE AND I WILL TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT POST OFFICE IT IS.

I love those days i find my mailbox empty, means i didn't get any bills for a day. Ah, the fresh air of a less stressful day. I told my letter carrier to quit delivering Bills, but he said he's not allowed to do that. I'm considering hiding my mailbox or welding it shut.
