Entry bubble Questions for the President

By: Jess | March 26, 2009 | Category: General

If you ever wished you could communicate directly with President Obama, ask him a question and get an answer, now you have a chance.

Whitehouse.gov launched a forum where you can submit questions about the economy in text or video messages for the President to see. He then may answer some of your questions live in his own video chat.

If you're not interested in submitting your own question, you can also vote on other people's submissions.

The President says in his video message that this is a new experiment, but he hopes to open the White House to the American people, to get opinions on the economy from outside Washington and understand citizens' most pressing concerns.

The White House blog provides a brief summary of how online town halls will work. You may also want to read basic guidelines for submitting questions before you dive in.

You can watch the first town hall online today and can check Whitehouse.gov to look for more opportunities to ask the President questions.

If you could ask President Obama one question, what would it be? You can leave it here in the comments, but then go over to Whitehouse.gov and ask him yourself.

The president was asked by tens of thousands of people about the issue of marijuana and the implications for its legalization. By not only refusing to address the issue short of a one word answer, while the crowd around him laughed, Mr. Obama showed the American people just how interested he really is in listening to them. The laughter around him was especially troubling, because people are dying in Mexico right now, young kids are sitting in jail right now, and the situation is only getting worse every day. How about Mr. Obama give a rational justification for the continued criminalization of the plant that is as thoughtful as the reasons that he gave for the continued existence of health insurance companies.
I hope that Mr. Obama enjoyed his 'experiment', I for one also had fun listening to the questions of small business people...funny how I didn't see many of their questions with a lot of votes. Maybe next time Mr. Obama wants to reach out to the web users (young people), he can just make his own questions up from the get go so that we don't relive today's massive disappointment.

I think the Obama presidency had being utilizing technology really well. Facebook, Twitter. Facebook was how he was able to raise so much money. I receive an email the other day "Barack Obama (BarackObama) is now following your updates on Twitter". That just make one feel special.

I'm just glad we have someone who is willing to listen to us, the people of this nation. True he may not necessarily agree with us or have the ability to please everyone, but at least he is trying. It seems like it's been so long since I felt that my opinion, voice and needs matter to the White House.

Hoorays are in order!!

Why do we not have a Global space program?

I've heard that we've cut funds for the space program time and time again and many other countries are trying to get out in space themselves, it just would make sense to get all the brightest minds together in the same room and each country participateing to provide an equal amount of funds.

I know i'm making this sound simple, but it makes sense to me. Space exploration should be a priority and with all the "priorities" we obviously have in the US, we just can't do it alone. If i've missed something i'm sorry, please correct me, I admit I don't follow up on everything the government is doing day to day.

I would to ask the President, who says that JESUS CHRIST is his SAVIOR, why he is supporting things like abortion and funding abortions in other countries with tax payers money? I would also like to know why he supports the things that GOD is opposed to?

I am upset with the Medicare part D insurance companies being allowed to include what we pay for our deductible to be included in what they pay for our maximum of $2700 in coverage we get for a year. With the cost of my medicine so high, the year is only half over and I have barely $400 left in coverage. With me taking 4 premium prescriptions that $400 will not even come close to covering the cost of just the Advair I must use twice a day. Who's idea was it to allow them to include what we pay to meet the mere $2700 total of coverage? Can't policies be made available with varied amounts of coverage and what about having that donut hole covered again? This is why so many seniors are not taking their meds as they should and see their health deteriorate. A major change is needed for those of us using medicare part D and we need it soon.

Hello Mr. Obama,

We have seen a rise in incoming applicants from USA looking for financial and accountancy work overseas.

With the global brain drain ever increasing due to the aging societies do you forsee that talent from America will leave to search out new careers overseas?

Our figures at www.financejobs.co.nz are showing a massive 25% increase in applicants from overseas looking for work in New Zealand, since the credit crunch began.

I beleive that because the exchange rate is currently 1.7 to 1 NZD it has become very favourable for jobseekers to not only look in domestic markets but also overseas.

I am 58 years old and have in excess of 50,000 in student loans at 8.25% interest. When I asked my congressman for help in getting interest rate reduced I was told he could not help me. I will never get this paid off due to the interest rate. How can people encourage young people to go to college on student loans and not have any luck paying them off. I never denied owing this but it would have been nice if I could have re-financed when interest rates was at a low but was told I had refinanced once. I can not encourage young people to take advantage of student loans. I can not afford to own a car nor own or purchase a house. My education is something that no one can take away from me and I am proud of it.

How can you justify using more money in your first 100 days than George W. Bush used in the first four years of his presidency? What are you spending so much money on?

My industry is a major source for global warming. Signs light up the skies at night, and use a tremendous amount of energy. My company has started using LED low voltage lighting for a lot of electrical signs. The 12 volt system uses 90% of the electricity of convential lighting. More info can be found at our company blog.
