When you live here in Washington, it’s hard not to be aware of the historic events we’ll host next week. For weeks, everyone’s been speculating about how many people will converge on the nation’s capital to witness Barack Obama’s inauguration. I don’t know that I trust any of the predictions, but I do know that for every person who comes, thousands more will be participating from home in spirit.

For all of you who will be following the festivities remotely, Gov Gab is offering you a special treat. We’ve been lucky enough to get press passes to four official Inaugural events, and we’re going to bring you a citizen’s eye view of all the action! With help from our colleagues at USA.gov and GobiernoUSA.gov, we’ll be using Twitter and this blog to share stories, real-time updates, photos, and more. We’re pretty excited, not only to attend these events, but also to be the first government agency to use social media tools to give citizens a behind-the-scenes look at these special parts of our national life.

Here’s a rundown of the events we plan to cover:

But before the excitement begins, we have a pressing question. What do you want to know about these events? What would you like us to cover? The performers, the venues, the attendees? Just our personal experiences? We’ll do our best to bring you as much of the information you’d like as possible—just please remember that we’re still experimenting with all the tools we’ll be using. Hey, if you have suggestions for how to make our coverage better, please tell us that, too!

I wanted to say that the economy is very bad now. I am a single educated parent and is desperetly looking for work. Since this economy , everything is bad with jobs , money and other things. I just wanted to know how the government can find money to celebrate parties and all. but dont have money for people that really want to get places in life. NO jobs, at all how are we suppose to take care of our young ones .Please help out with proving us with jobs in the united states.

I refuse to watch an Illegal Alien brought into the white house with the Black widow. He has shamed our country and is shaming our White House . May God be with us all

I feel like such a girl for saying this, but I'd love to see coverage and photographs of the fashion worn by everyone. <g>

All,
Thanks for your comments.

Wilmarie--The Presidential Inaugural Committee, a private organization, hosts many of the Inaugural ceremony events. The government doesn't pay for any of the balls.

Evangeline--We'll do our best to get some good fashion shots. Thanks for the request!

It's such a shame that pure hatred and racism is still evident in this country and in these comments. I sometimes wonder how people would feel if Mr. Obama's tax cuts and upcoming stimulus only went to his supporters? Luckily, he's not as spiteful as I and intends to help ALL Americans. To call him an "illegal alien" or even a "black widow" is not only disrespectful, it is full of the hate the MLK was trying to dispell. Shame on all who cannot be positive on this momentous occasion.

Isn't Twitter a commercial venture? Is it right for the government to favor one company over another? Have the folks behind this blog held a fair and open competition before choosing to post content on Twitter?
